History Following the proposal from the Global Map Initiative by the Ministry of Construction in Japan to the world, the Global Mapping Project has started !
1992 The Earth Summit was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and the action plan Agenda 21 was adopted there. Based on the idea that organizing geographical data is necessary to scientifically cope with environmental problems, as stated also in the Agenda 21, the Ministry of Construction of Japan (the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport at present) proposed the Global Map Initiative. At the same time, mapping activities have been voluntarily carried out at the grassroots level and were approved as an official project. This was the beginning of the Global Mapping project.
1996 ISCGM: International Steering Committee for Global Mapping was established and operates the project via the network of official mapping organizations from participating countries.
2002 The Global Map was introduced in the action plan of the world Summit on Sustainable Development (Johannesburg Summit).

In the Johannesburg Summit, the seminar "The Global Map Partnership-Sustainable Development and Geographical Information" was sponsored by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
2008 The Global Map Version 1 was released.
